“Fiduciary duty” includes the legal obligation to act in the best interest of another, such as (1) a trustee managing assets for beneficiaries, (2) corporate officers and directors, (3) executors of estates, and (4) general partners and other partnership arrangements. Imposition of a fiduciary duty by the law is done to ensure loyalty, extra care, and transparency in managing financial or personal matters. It is a higher duty than “ordinary care,” and this heightened obligation to put another’s interests before oneself often results in litigation against the fiduciary. Mr. Young has handled fiduciary duty litigation in all of these contexts.

“Oil and gas” refers to the exploration, extraction, production, transportation and distribution of petroleum and natural gas resources. It includes the obligations of those that explore for and produce oil and natural gas to their lessors and landowners. This often results in litigation over royalties due, despoiling of the land, and claims related to busted pipelines, especially legacy pipelines. A lot of litigation in Texas ensues between partners and other investors in various oil and gas projects. Mr. Young has handled oil and gas litigation arising from all of these situations.

“Corporate governance” involves systems and processes for directing and controlling companies, ensuring accountability, transparency, and ethical decision-making. It balances the interests of shareholders, management, and stakeholders to promote long-term value and trust in business operations. A lot of fiduciary duty cases arise in the corporate governance context. Mr. Young has litigated corporate governance cases in Texas and Delaware.

“Cybersecurity” involves protecting computer systems, networks, and data from digital threats, such as hacking, malware, and unauthorized access. It focuses on safeguarding information integrity, confidentiality, and availability to prevent security breaches and ensure safe online operations. Even when foreign actors are involved, cybersecurity cases when properly focused can produce remedies for those suffering from a cybersecurity breach. Mr. Young has handled several of these cases.
